Abstract

Low back pain is the pain of the vertebral and paravertebral area between the last ribs and the sacral region. It can be acute or chronic, and has multiple etiologies such as Cauda Equina Syndrome, fractures, spondylolisthesis, infectious processes, herniated discs, and among the most frequent are the mechanical causes due to poor posture. It is vital to take a good medical history and physical exam to rule out the red flags of low back pain. The red flags refer to the signs and symptoms that suggest pathological and serious etiologies of low back pain. If these flags are present, complementary studies should be made. Management is directed according to the cause of the pain.
