Abstract
HELLP syndrome is a pregnancy related disease, presenting a triad of Hemolysis, Elevated Liver enzymes, Low Platelets. This syndrome is characterized by its multisystemic affection, presenting a high maternal and fetal morbimortality. It is estimated that around 0,1-0,9% of all pregnancies are affected, primarily between the 27-37 weeks of gestation; and about 10-20% are also presented with preeclampsia. These patients usually refer epigastric pain or in the upper right quadrant of the abdomen, nausea and/or vomits, and the diagnosis is made by the triad: microangiopathic anemia, elevated liver enzymes and thrombocytopenia. After the diagnosis, it should be managed in a hospital and a multidisciplinary team because of the possible mother and fetus complications. The treatment is primarily symptomatic and to perform the delivery between 24-48 hours post diagnosis.
